Krillion strategy: how to dive deeper without drowning

After a few hundred dives — ours and the ones players told us about — some patterns are clear. None of this is secret, but most people never do it on purpose.

1. Say something in the first ten seconds

A miss is zero. A Plankton is ten. Ten is infinitely better than zero. Wrong guesses cost nothing, so type freely — but the first accepted answer ends the round, so decide early whether you are gambling. If the clock passes ten seconds with nothing, take the safe fish.

2. Skip the first thing that comes to mind

The first answer you think of is the first answer everyone thinks of. That is what Plankton means. Let it go and take the second or third; those are usually Schooler or Rare, and they cost you two seconds.

3. Go regional

For any geography, food or animal prompt, pick a region the prompt didn't mention and answer from there. "Name a cheese" → think Spain, not France. "Name a river" → think Africa or South America. Rare answers cluster where attention doesn't.

4. Learn the shape of the bank

Every reveal screen shows the full list of accepted answers by tier. Read it. After a week you will have a feel for how big banks are (some prompts accept 200 answers, some 15) and where the 85s hide — usually one step past the well-known names, not in the obscure ones.

5. Don't chase the star every round

The 🌟 One in a Krillion is a single specific answer. Guessing for it blind is how you drown. Take it when it comes to you; otherwise a steady run of 60s and 85s is a 450+ dive, which reaches the abyss.

6. Use hints as insurance, not a plan

A hint-rescued answer is worth 54, 45 or 33 points. That is a fine floor when you truly blank, and a bad ceiling when you don't. Flip one hint, look at the first letter, and let your own memory do the rest.
